Ignite – Boardroom Competition

The final step in the Ignite process – the 4 Ignite finalists will each deliver a 20 minute investment presentation to the Ignite Power Panel. The presentation will be followed by a 10 minute Q&A session, where team will face real scrutiny from entrepreneurs, investors, and business leaders who have been there and done that. Following the Boardroom Presentations, our Ignite Power Panel will select the two Ignite winners! Registration opens at 5:00pm. Hors d’oeuvres and refreshments will be served. Ignite is Coming!

We are very excited to announce that applications for our fourth annual Ignite Startup Competition will be opening in August 2016. Two start-up companies will be awarded $25,000 to use towards their business. Along with the monetary prize, the two winners will be given free office space in The Loft and will also join Spark Centre’s Thrive Accelerator Program which offers significant advisory and business support services to achieve a faster market entry. Ignite will also include the Student Entrepreneur category, awarding $5,000 to a post-secondary entrepreneur along with automatic inclusion into Spark Centre’s Youth Incubator Program. Applications for Spark Centre’s Thrive Accelerator Program – Cohort 4 are now open! THRIVE is a startup accelerator that offers a hybrid of incubation and acceleration services. Co-locate with the Spark Centre team and other tech startups to achieve a faster market entry with advisory and operational support services. FIRST Robotics Competition

Fifty high school robotics teams from across Ontario, Quebec, Alberta and the states of New York and Texas will converge at the joint Durham College / University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) campus from Thursday, March 10 to Saturday, March 12 for a three-day robotics showdown at the FIRST® Robotics Canada (FRC) Greater Toronto East Regional competition. The event in the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre (CRWC) is free and open to the public. More than 1,000 students will demonstrate their engineering skills and knowledge playing FIRST Stronghold™, the new game developed for the 2016 competition, as they contend for a coveted spot at the FRC World Championship.
